Planai I+II cable car to be replaced by 10-person gondola
After more than thirty years of faithful service, it's time to retire the Planai I+II. The current 6-person cable car is outdated and can't keep up with increasing demands. It will be replaced by a 10-person Doppelmayr D-Line cable car with an hourly capacity of 3800 people, which is an increase of 70% compared with the old cable car. Not only will the newer cable car be roomier and more comfortable, it will also serve during the summer months and will be able to carry mountain bikes or prams. The 10-person Planai cable car will have two sections and a new top station, middle station and valley station will be built. In order to build the new cable car the 3-person chairlift will also be demolished. The new cable car will begin service in december 2019 and represents the biggest investment ever taken by the lift company.
Schladming will also build a second 10-person gondola from Schladming to Rohrmoos, which will bring skiers and snowboarders to the practice area of the Rohrmoos ski school. The new cable car will replace the current 2-person chairlift, Rohrmoos I, and will have an hourly capacity of 2200 people. The connection with the current Rohrmoos II lift will also be improved, and the multifunctional valley station will be equipped to offer a range of facilities.
